Christmas period starts in Cinque Terre
Every year on December 8th the world record nativity place in Manarola, by Mario Andreoli, a retiered winemaker, is literally ‘switched on’. The hilltop at the back of this quaint village glitters in thousand lights covering hundreds shapes scattered all over. Each piece represents different characters of this very unusual creche. The visitors, every year more, wait on the opposite side of the hill for this magical show, which is also accompanied by fireworks. There is no similar and more striking event, I have ever assisted.
I recommend to take the train, which is the best means of transport to reach for Cinque Terre. There are some nice events for kids and adults during the day, but I’d rather get there before sunset. In fact the procession and event will start at dark. Happy Christmas period!
