Montalcino food festival and historical parade
Montalcino food festival and historical parade
I have attended the food festival in Montalcino last weekend, the socalled Festa del Tordo. The latter is a small bird, which used to be a treat in the middle ages. It takes place in the last sunday of October. Weather was sunny and rather chilly as the wind flew strong, but not that much unusual for this town which is at 700mt above the see level. In the past the fortress of Montalcino was an open air banquet with bbqs stands, chestnuts, wine and a lot of local delicacies. This year the food was served outside the walls in a less characteristic atmosphere, but the historical parade was yet very rich in cloths and characters. We also attended the bow contest, where the 4 main districts faced themselves to proof their skills in archery. We had lunch in one of the best restaurants in Montalcino, at Osticcio, which has a wide winery and offers an accurate service, delicious cuisine and a stunning view on Montalcino and the surrounding landscape.
I had an advanced reservation, almost one month ahead of time, but it was definitely worth!
